Milton Keynes Play Association has recently been awarded five years Lottery funding for a Rural Play Ranger Project.
The Rural Play Rangers will target 4 different rural communities around Milton Keynes each year, to encourage children and young people to access their own freely available play spaces within the locality.
Part of this work will involve being around in those areas at times when children and young people are around, for example after school and possibly Saturdays, supporting their freely chosen play. This should encourage children and young people to be out and about, and give parents and carers the peace of mind to allow their children to do this.
There will also be a need to liaise with schools, community members and local groups, and in the early stages it is planned that the project will encourage children and young people to talk to older people within the communities about their own childhood play experiences, and hopefully build closer links with young and old people.
The Rural Play Development Officer will be responsible for developing and overseeing the project, building the links with schools, parish councils, local community groups and community members, and managing the Rural Play Rangers.
