The Art of Recycling Exhibition 2007

Milton Keynes Play Association showcased the creative flair of the local community, turning scrap materials into works of art!

MKPA have hosted an exhibition entitled “The Art of Recycling” throughout mid July, as part of MK’s 40th birthday celebrations.

Thanks to the support of the Milton Keynes Community Foundation, MKPA were able to provide the local community with an exhibition of artistic design. Held at the Christian Foundation Centre on Kiln Farm MKPA were proud to present a wide variety of creative talent.

Local community groups and individuals have produced 45 displays ranging from individual table top designs, to larger collective pieces that illustrated the flexibility of recyclable materials. Exhibits included large collective pieces of art like a pirate galleon.

"This was MKPA's contribution to the city’s 40th birthday celebrations. The exhibits were of a very high standard and reflected in a variety of ways the reuse of some of the 100 tonnes of non toxic commercial waste that passes through our Resource Unit every year. It’s just like a giant Blue Peter!” said Andy Grout, Executive Director of MKPA.

National Scrap Swap 2006

September 2006 saw MKPA hosting the big event in the scrapstore year.  We had 25 vans come here full of scrap to swap.  The idea is to empty out your van, have a look at what others have brought them to fill your van with lots of new and interesting scrap!  Our visitors had come from as far a field as Edinburgh, Cardiff, Norwich and Plymouth.

We had a lovely day with sunny weather and TV crews from BBC Look South and East.  We were pleased to see ourselves on the evening news.  Here are a few photographs to give you a flavour of the day.
